OTHER MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS

Safe Haven  - The Safe Haven initiative provides a calm, culturally sensitive and non-clinical alternative to hospital emergency departments, for people experiencing distress or suicidal thoughts. Safe Havens are staffed by peer-support workers and you can be connected to other mental health professionals.  

PHN (Primary Health Network) Central and Eastern Sydney - Psychological Support Services (PSS) provides free access to short-term psychological therapy either face-to-face or via telehealth. PSS is for people experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns who live in the Central and Eastern Sydney region and are experiencing financial hardship or low income, and who may not be able to access support through Medicare subsidised psychological services. 

ACAP -Australian College of Applied Professions - ACAP Psychology, Counselling and Social Work Clinics - The Clinics offer a range of psychology, counselling and social work services to the community free of charge.  In addition to telehealth services delivered in regional, remote and outer metropolitan areas, ACAP have two onsite clinic locations. The Sydney ACAP Clinic is located in the Sydney CBD, across from Hyde Park and close to the Museum train station.

Your Coach Plus - It’s a free and confidential program that can help you develop the skills you need to manage everyday stresses. Using a guided, self-help approach, this program is designed to help you break negative thought patterns and feel more in control based on low intensity CBT principles. 

Helplink.ie - This global service provides free, culturally sensitive counselling support to Irish citizens living abroad or returning home with their emotional support needs. This is not a crisis service. Available 7 days a week. Self-refer via website contact form.  

Mental Health Crisis Line: The 1800 011 511 Mental Health Line is NSW Health's 24/7 statewide phone service which links people with NSW Health mental health services. It is staffed by trained mental health professionals who:  

  • offer mental health advice 

  • complete a brief assessment 

  • make recommendations for appropriate care, including referral to NSW Health mental health services. 

NALAG – NALAG NSW provides a free, confidential, grief and loss support services across NSW, delivered by a team of trained volunteers and staff. Providing telephone support and, in some of our Centres, face-to-face support and counselling.

Blue Knot Foundation - National Centre of Excellence for Complex Trauma - Blue Knot provides information and support for anyone who is affected by complex trauma. Adult survivors of childhood trauma including abuse.

Butterfly Foundation - Here for anyone in Australia concerned about eating disorders or body image issues, whether you need support for yourself or someone you care about. All counsellors are qualified mental health professionals with a background in psychology, social work or counselling. They also have specialist training in eating disorders and body image. 

EPIC – Empowering Parents in Crisis - EPIC provides peer support to parents of young people in crisis. EPIC recognises parents as first responders to their children and supports them by creating a safe, non judgemental community that empowers parents with the knowledge, skills and confidence to enable them to best support their young person, their family and themselves. 

Dokotela – Dokotela is an Australian owned and operated company making specialist care more accessible by connecting patients across Australia with specialist doctors and clinicians through a secure online booking and video-conferencing platform. Online Psychiatry (GP referral required, rebate under MHCP)  

Sydney Community Safe Space - Sydney Community Safe Space mission is a community based service that runs programs in the community to support people in suicidality and emotional distress.  A Peer- Led non clinical space that is a true alternative to an Emergency Department. Providing a warm, empathetic and welcoming environment.
