THE IRISH 30 | Coping with Grief & Loss: The Irish Perspective

Our next Irish 30 session falls on November 2nd, traditionally known as All Souls Day. We have decided to focus this session on grief and loss, exploring the Irish perspective; how we can begin to process our pain after losing a loved one, or how we can support someone close to us moving through the grieving process.

We are very please to be joined by two guest for this session to include both professional and personal insights into grief and loss.

Órlaith Sheill

Órlaith has been practicing as a counsellor in Sydney for over 16 years, with a specialisation in grief support.  Órlaith works within an empathic and strengths-based approach, encouraging the client’s own resilience and coping skills. She works both in a clinic providing fertility counselling and in private practice offering support to those grieving a loss and managing non-death losses, such as life changes and transitions, for example, immigrating, losing a job, ending a relationship, and Covid restrictions and their impact.

Aoife Butler

Aoife is 26 and works as a qualified mental health nurse. Originally from Wexford, Aoife moved to Sydney just over a year ago, after a long awaited dream to work here and be with her brother after not seeing him for 3.5 years.  That unfortunately changed when her bother passed away from suicide in August 2016.

Although it didn’t come easy she now lives her life here in Sydney in memory of him. Aoife shares that “grief has been a massive part of my life and has changed the person I used to be, I unfortunately also unexpectedly lost my grandad the day of my Brothers funeral and although there was many times in my life I wasn’t sure if I would make it through the pain of grief, I now try and speak as openly as possible about my experience in hope that those who are going through grief will realise they are not alone.”
